Roberto Escobar, 53, outside of the abandoned house where he squats in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY. Originally from El Salvador, he has lived in the house for three years without electricity, running water or gas. Escobar worked in landscaping but said that after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, work dried up. He wakes up every morning at 5:30 am to begin collecting cans.
